As a minimum they at least appear to be in the Euprymna family from their appearance but this could prove incorrect. These contain a large number of tentacles concentrated on the ends to hold the prey. The Hawaiian bobtail squid is a cephalopod — related to other squid, octopuses, cuttlefishes and the chambered nautilus. In addition to phylogeny, the scientists are interested in the bobtail squid’s symbiotic relationship with the Vibrio fischeri bacteria that populate a pouch-like organ on the squid’s underside. The specimens in the images are approximately 2.5 cm in length. Hawaiian Bobtail Squid Facts Firstly, you cannot take the beautiful Hawaiian Bobtail Squid for granted just because it isn't large. At first they sit down on the sand and if one keeps the lights on them then they slowly dig in the sand with just the eyes protruding.
